Barr Lake State Parkis nearby and offers biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and boating. There is a level 8+ mile trail that circles around the lake. Bald eagles spend the winter at Barr Lake. Fisherman can catch rainbow trout, bass, catfish and other species. The Nature Center is the place for all your questions. It's a good place to start your visit to the park.
The Adams County Fair is normally held during the first full week in August. The first fair was held in 1904. Festivities include a parade, rodeo, various special events, a carnival and numerous booths with food, clothing and souvenirs.
Adams County Colorado was created in 1902. Prior to that, the area was a part of Arapahoe County. The name came from Alva Adams, a popular governor at the time.
Agriculture and raising livestock have always been two of the main sources of industry in Adams County. In the early years, these farms and ranches provided produce and meat for the growing City of Denver and surrounding areas. It was ultimately more prosperous than gold mining.
