Adams County Colorado  is in the northeastern section of the Denver Colorado metropolitan area. The Adams County seat is Brighton, Colorado

Adams County Colorado communities include the City of Aurora, CO, the own of Bennett, CO,  the City of Brighton, CO, Commerce City, CO, the towns of Dupont and Eastlake, the City of Federal Heights, the town of Henderson, CO, Irondale, CO, the City of Northglenn, CO, the town of Strasburg, CO, the City of Thornton, CO, the towns of Watkins and Welby, CO and the city of Westminster, CO.

Adams County has activities for all ages.  The Adams County Fair is the largest in the state, Rocky Mountain Arsenal is a great place to enjoy nature or take your sailboat to Barr Lake.

The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge , run by the U.S. Parks Service, is host of a number of native animals including bison, coyotes, bald eagles, deer, hawks and owls.  Catch and release fishing is a major activity.  The Colorado Prairie has been allowed to flourish on the Refuge.

Barr Lake State Park is nearby and offers biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and boating.  There is a level 8+ mile trail that circles around the lake.  Bald eagles spend the winter at Barr Lake.  Fisherman can catch rainbow trout, bass, catfish and other species. The Nature Center is the place for all your questions.  It's a good place to start your visit to the park.

The Adams County Fair is normally held during the first full week in August.  The first fair was held in 1904.  Festivities include a parade, rodeo, various special events, a carnival and numerous booths with food, clothing and souvenirs.

Adams County Colorado was created in 1902. Prior to that, the area was a part of Arapahoe County. The name came from Alva Adams, a popular governor at the time.

Agriculture and raising livestock have always been two of the main sources of industry in Adams County. In the early years, these farms and ranches provided produce and meat for the growing City of Denver and surrounding areas. It was ultimately more prosperous than gold mining.

There is an office of the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Office in Adams County. This office provides information on a number of topics. They are a tremendous resource for residential gardeners. They can help you with pest control, weed management as well as offering nutritional, consumer and family education programs.
